KARLENE'S STORY

I became totally paralysed in 1983. I was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis (MS). The MRI scans revealed damage to my nervous system, which manifested itself in muscular weakness, multi-vision, severe back pain, inflamed skin and spasms. Various prescribed medicines were ineffective. What has worked for me is my strong spiritual focus, vegetarian diet, exercise and other activities that are documented in my book Living Free with MS: Overcoming Challenges and Redefining life.

I have managed the MS over the last 33 years, so was truly shocked on being informed at the last consultation that I now fell into the category of Secondary Progressive, which is quite an advanced stage for MS sufferers.

I currently walk with the aid of a rollator due to poor mobility and am unable to control my bladder. My neurologist says that I should be using a wheelchair.

I have taken the decision that with effect from April 2016, I will practise everything intensely that is outlined in my book, with the aim that by April 2017 I will be walking without the rollator, jumping, going up and down stairs, able to control my bladder and be ready to be on the mission field full time.

God wants us to be a whole soul, spirit and body. Whilst tending to all three areas, my initial focus in April 2016 will be on my spiritual wellbeing, but I will not neglect my physical and soul wellbeing. Please journey with me.

Living with MS is not just for MS sufferers, but is for anyone who wants to walk in good health.
